DIY & Hobbies · InfoDrop

Ted's Woodworking sells access to a very large collection of woodworking plans for one relatively small one-time price.

That sounds impressive.

But 16,000 is also a number big enough to deserve a closer look.

We looked at what the seller promises, what you actually get for the advertised price, and the concerns worth knowing before you decide.

What It Is

01

A very large woodworking-plan library

Ted’s Woodworking is sold as an online collection of woodworking projects covering things such as furniture, small crafts, outdoor projects and workshop projects.

The official site says the package contains more than 16,000 plans, with step-by-step details, templates and cutting/material lists. It also advertises woodworking tutorials, monthly plans and 150 video classes.

The current sales offer adds lifetime membership, a searchable members area, custom plan requests, CAD/DWG-related material and other bonuses.

Important distinction: those are the seller's descriptions of the package. InfoDrops has not independently counted all 16,000 plans or tested the complete library.

The offer we found: $67 once

The seller currently presents this as a $67 one-time lifetime offer and says the standard membership is moving to $39/month.

The same page advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Good To Know

03

The appeal isn't difficult to understand.

You aren't really buying 16,000 future projects.

You're buying the convenience of having a large collection available when you need an idea or plan.

That could be useful if you:

  • regularly build different kinds of woodworking projects;
  • prefer browsing one collection rather than hunting for individual plans;
  • are comfortable evaluating a plan before cutting materials; or
  • expect to use enough of the collection to justify the price.

And $67 is low enough that you don't need thousands of useful plans for the purchase to have potential value.

But that leads directly to the other side of the story.

Watch Out

04

16,000 plans doesn't mean 16,000 equally good plans.

This is where InfoDrops would slow down.

The official marketing describes detailed plans designed to make projects straightforward.

Independent feedback is much more mixed.

A hands-on woodworking review describes the collection as compiled from numerous sources and says quality varies substantially, including older scanned material. The reviewer also questions whether the package contains 16,000 distinct, useful plans.

Customer reviews on Trustpilot are also notably negative, although the sample is very small: at the time we checked, the profile showed 12 reviews and a 2.0/5 TrustScore. Complaints include plan quality, organization and difficulties obtaining refunds. These are customer allegations, not findings independently verified by InfoDrops.

In other words:

The size of the library is the headline.

The usefulness of the individual plans is what matters.

Those aren't necessarily the same thing.

Our Take

05

Think “large idea library,” not “16,000 perfect blueprints.”

Without purchasing and inspecting the full product ourselves, we wouldn't tell you that every plan is excellent—or that every criticism online is representative.

What we can say is that the proposition becomes much easier to evaluate when you stop focusing on the number 16,000.

Would access to a large, mixed woodworking library be worth $67 to you even if you only end up using a small part of it?

For an experienced hobbyist comfortable judging plans and adapting instructions, the breadth may be the attraction.

For a complete beginner expecting every project to provide the same polished, modern, highly detailed instruction, the mixed independent feedback deserves particular attention before buying.

Before You Buy

Four things worth doing first

  1. 1

Ignore the giant number for a moment.

Decide whether the kinds of projects shown are actually projects you want to build.

  2. 2

    Look at sample plans.

The official site currently offers free sample material, which is a sensible way to judge whether the presentation suits you before paying.

  3. 3

    Read the checkout carefully.

Confirm today's price, what's included and whether any optional offers have been added.

  4. 4

    Keep the refund information.

The seller currently advertises a 60-day guarantee. If that matters to your decision, retain your receipt and the terms shown when you purchase.

The Bottom Line

Big library. Small price. Mixed signals.

Ted's Woodworking makes an attention-grabbing proposition: a huge woodworking-plan collection for $67.

The official offer is broad. The price is relatively modest. And someone who finds even a handful of useful projects could reasonably get practical value from the collection.

But quantity shouldn't be confused with consistency.

Independent feedback raises questions about plan quality and organization, while customer experiences with refunds appear mixed. That's another reason we wouldn't treat the seller's marketing claims as the whole story.

Our suggestion: look at the samples, understand what you're buying, and decide whether the library makes sense for the way you actually build.
